Covid-19 and Global Health Security

Preparing for the Unimaginable

Dr Catherine Rhodes, Executive Director of the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER) and Senior Research Associate with the Biosecurity Research Initiative at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, joined us for this online event that aimed to bring debates on the ongoing pandemic into a broader context.

Questions tackled during the presentation and the Q&A session included: how well were the UK and the international community prepared for the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic? What lessons are already emerging from the current crisis? What other extreme health risks are we unaware of, or aware of but unprepared for? And how to prepare for such high-impact, low-probability events? The debate was chaired by our own Chiara Libiseller (WIIS UK Leadership team).
